Post-Exemption / Post-PTOR French Course (Language Maintenance and Enrichment)
General Course Description
The Post-PTOR French course is a language maintenance and enrichment course designed for students who have completed advanced French studies and wish to maintain, refresh, and further develop the language skills acquired in previous years.
The course is non-mandatory and does not involve formal assessment requirements. It is intended for learners who wish to continue using French actively without academic pressure.
The course is conducted at a level equivalent to B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and focuses on sustained and meaningful language use through discussion, reading, listening, and oral expression.
The emphasis is on preserving fluency, accuracy, and confidence, rather than on systematic instruction of new grammatical content.
Course Objectives
The main objectives of the course are to enable learners to:
- Maintain a strong command of French following the completion of formal coursework
- Prevent skill attrition and language loss
- Continue engaging with French in cultural, intellectual, and social contexts
- Develop fluent, confident, and nuanced language use
Learning Approach and Content
The course adopts a flexible and low-pressure learning framework and includes:
- Guided and open discussions on current, cultural, and social topics
- Reading and analysis of authentic texts (articles, press excerpts, short literary texts)
- Listening to and viewing audiovisual materials (interviews, videos, podcasts)
- Oral activities emphasizing fluency, precision, and pragmatic competence
- Group interaction encouraging natural and spontaneous language use
The course is intended for learners with prior experience in French (approximately B2 level) who wish to keep their French active and evolving as part of their academic, cultural, or personal lives.
