French Advanced Course 

General Course Description

Advanced French is an annual hybrid (zoom + campus) course divided into two semesters, held twice a week. Each session lasts 90 minutes. The course uses an integrative approach with four language skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) based on task-based learning covering topics such as daily life, current news, French culture and history, and more, using original texts, video clips, songs, etc. Enrollment requires the completion of a beginner-level French course or achieving A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

 

Course Goals and Learning Outcomes

The main objective of the Advanced French course is to develop the skills and strategies needed for independent engagement with a wide range of texts and tasks in French using a dictionary, aligning with the B1 level of the CEFR.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate independent language use at the B1 level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

Listening

  • Understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, and everyday life.
  • Comprehend the main ideas of radio and television programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest, provided the delivery is slow and clear.

Reading

  • Understand texts composed mainly of high-frequency everyday or work-related language.
  • Comprehend descriptions of events, feelings, and wishes in personal correspondence.
  • Understand the main points of online newspaper articles on familiar topics.

Speaking

  • Link phrases and ideas in a simple, coherent way to describe experiences, events, aspirations, and plans.
  • Give brief reasons and explanations for opinions and intentions.
  • Narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and express personal reactions.

Writing

  • Produce connected texts on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
  • Write short essays or reports presenting information and expressing or supporting a point of view.

 The course adopts a highly varied and interactive learning approach, combining group work, language games, guided conversations, songs, and other communicative activities designed to foster active participation and sustained engagement.
