FAQ
What are the requirements for exemption from English language?
- Those with an “Exemption” grade obtained on the psychometric examination (AMIR or AMIRAM)
- Those who hold an academic degree from an accredited Israeli university or college, or an academic degree from an accredited university or college abroad in an English-speaking country, where the language of instruction was English.
- Those who studied in an English-speaking high school (grades 11 and 12) in an English speaking country and successfully passed the English exams.
- Students who successfully completed as part of a full year of study at the Technion or at any other University in Israel, a course that grants English exemption at the grade of at least 60 (Humanities and Education students need a grade of at least 70) as part of their academic year at this institution, on condition that this course will be acknowledged by the Division of Languages.
These students must submit to the division secretary an annual study record and approval from the English unit from the institution they studied in, regarding the course level, the date of the course and the final grade.

NOTE:
Applicants who received an exemption according to a single exam or course at a university or at any other academic institution ARE NOT granted an exemption from Tel Aviv University English requirements.
Recognition of courses as mentioned in article 4 is subject to the academic procedures.
Which English placement tests are accepted by Tel Aviv University?
As of 2022-2023 academic year, Tel Aviv University is accepting results of the following exams:
- TOEFL iBT / TOEFL iBT Home Edition
- IELTS Academic / IELTS Academic Online
- Cambridge Exams for higher Education: B2 First / C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency
As of the second semester of the 2025-2026 academic year, Tel Aviv University is accepting results of the PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English Academic.
The levels are compatible with the CEFR scale and are determined according to CEFR’s four language skills. The certification of levels based on these exams will be determined by the Division of Languages.
Some international programs may require higher levels, and the certification will therefore be issued by the Division of Languages.
In addition, applicants/students of Tel Aviv University, who wish to take the TOEFL iBT exam, are entitled to a $20 discount. Enter the code with purchase: EDUSOFT2024

The results for these exams will be valid for 5 years.
Recognition of English courses completed at another university:
English courses completed at another university are valid for 5 years.
English courses completed in Israeli colleges without completing a full bachelor's degree are not accepted by Tel Aviv University/
